Description of Programs

SUNDAY Trinity Streets

On Sunday afternoon we act as the church for people experiencing homelessness with a service that is offered alternately by different churches and is followed with a meal. Many of the neighbors do not feel welcome in the regular Sunday services in town. By setting up the center as a communal place to worship, with a service, music, meal and a collaboration with other spiritual services’ providers we “walk the walk” of loving our neighbors as ourselves. There are usually 30-40 people who come to Sunday services.

  • 2:50pm – Doors open

  • 3:00pm – Worship service

  • 3:30pm – Lunch

  • 4:30pm – Doors close

MONDAY - Women's Clothing Closet

While operating Trinity Center it was obvious to us that there are fewer services offered to homeless women, who are traditionally more vulnerable and at risk in the population. Since 2005, Trinity Center has operated a Monday program for homeless women or people that identify themselves as women, creating a safe and welcoming environment away from the streets and offering a free clothing.

  • 9:30am – 12:00pm – Free “shopping” for new and lightly-used clothing, computer lab, coffee and fellowship, case management, resource referrals

FRIDAY- Men's Clothing Closet

9:30am – 11:00am – Free “shopping” for new and lightly-used clothing. First-come, first-serve for 20 to 25 men.

MONDAY & THRUSDAY - Showers

9:30am – 12:00pm – First-come, first-serve for10-12 female-identified individuals (Monday) and 10-12 male-identified individuals (Thursday). Towels, clothes and underwear provided.

Long-Distance Bus Passes

Everyday, upon request, Greyhound bus passes are purchased for individuals looking to reunite with relatives or friends in other cities to end their homelessness. Telephone number of relative/friend must be provided to verify housing.

Bus Pass Distribution

Everyday, bus cards are handed out to qualifying guests during hours of operation.

Prescription Assistance

Everyday, upon request, prescription assistance is provided.

Direct Assistance

Sign up outside at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, financial assistance is offered for IDs, Birth Certificates, and Rx co-pays. Our financial assistance, although limited, is aimed at helping our neighbors achieve goals of gaining stability and moving out of homelessness. We are NOT able to assist with rent, utilities or other financial needs.

Coordinated Assessments

A Coordinated Assessment is a housing needs evaluation where anyone experiencing homelessness in Austin/Travis County can apply for the majority of our community’s housing programs.

We Need Your Support Today!

Trinity Center Austin

Being a small organization allows us to offer a personal, familiar touch as we work with our neighbors each day. We have a staff of only six dedicated people, and we rely on people like you who commit to a three-hour volunteer shift weekly. We greet each other as neighbors instead of as providers and clients. We treat our neighbors with dignity and respect. In fact, we feel very proud of the manner in which our staff and volunteers “lead by acceptance,” resulting in neighbors who feel acknowledged and understood, have a sense of ownership of Trinity Center, and consider it their community center. Neighbors rely on us when they have nowhere else to go. As one of our neighbors stated in an August 2009 survey, “Trinity Center has been an anchor in a time of storm."
