We are excited to announce that Trinity Center begins offering a new after-hours program on June 2 through Communities for Recovery, a non-profit organization that supports long-term recovery for people with substance abuse and co-occurring mental health conditions.
The 90-minute sessions will be held in Trinity Center at 1:15 p.m. on Mondays for women and at 1:15 p.m. on Fridays for men. The meetings will be led by peer volunteers who have been trained specifically to help others as they have been helped themselves.
Communities for Recovery already operates similar programs at Austin Recovery and the Austin State Hospital, so they are experienced service providers. Specifically for Trinity Center they will facilitate “Back to Basics,” a 12-step behavioral education program, and they encourage new participants to commit to attending three consecutive months.
Our Executive Director, Irit Umani, has wanted to add a recovery program to our after-hours programs since she took the reins here, and she actively sought Communities for Recovery. We are hopeful that our neighbors will take advantage of this opportunity and benefit from it.
